Private videos

Invite specific viewers and require sign-in to watch.

Last updated: 2026-05-02

Private is the strictest access level. The viewer must be signed in to a VideoPlayer.ai account, and that account must be on the invite list. Anyone else sees a sign-in prompt and cannot play the video.

Steps

  1. Open the video from your library at /dashboard.
  2. Click Access.
  3. Choose Private.
  4. Add invited viewers by email address. Each invited address gets a magic-link sign-in invitation.
  5. Save. The video is now private.

How the invite list works

Each invited email maps to a single viewer account. If the address is not yet registered with VideoPlayer.ai, the magic link offers them a one-click sign-up that puts them on the list. Sign-in tokens are short-lived; viewers re-authenticate periodically.

Removing a viewer

Open the access panel, find the viewer, click Remove. Existing sessions stay valid until they expire (a small window of minutes for newly-removed viewers; revocation is propagated through session refresh checks).

When private is the right choice

  • Client deliverables that should not leak.
  • Internal training where each viewer needs to be tracked individually.
  • Videos under NDA where you need a verifiable record of who has seen them.

When password is enough

If you do not need to identify individual viewers, password protection is simpler and faster to set up. Viewers do not need accounts.

Embeds

Private videos can still be embedded on third-party sites. The embed shows a sign-in prompt for any visitor who is not signed in or not invited. See embed private videos.
