Access levels

The four access levels every video supports.

Last updated: 2026-05-02

Every video on VideoPlayer.ai has one of four access levels. The owner picks. The level can change at any time without changing the URL.

The four levels

Level Who can watch Listed on your public profile Indexed by search
Public Anyone with the link Yes Yes
Unlisted Anyone with the link No No
Password Anyone with the link plus the password No No
Private Only invited viewers signed in No No

When to pick which

  • Public: marketing video on a homepage, a video you want discoverable from search.
  • Unlisted: a draft you want to show a small group, or a video shared in a newsletter where you do not need search.
  • Password: paid course content, internal training, a preview behind a soft gate. The password is checked on the server.
  • Private: client deliverables, NDA content, internal-only videos. The viewer must be signed in to a VideoPlayer.ai account on your invite list.

Changing the level

From your library, open the video and click Access. Pick a new level. The change is immediate. Existing share links keep working; viewers who no longer qualify see the access prompt instead of the player.

What changes when you raise the level

If you go from public to private, anyone who already has the link can no longer watch unless they are signed in and invited. Embeds on third-party sites stop playing for non-invited viewers and show a sign-in prompt instead. Search engines may take time to drop the URL from their index.

What does not change

The video URL stays the same. Analytics keep accumulating from the moment of upload. Captions and transcripts are unchanged. The embed snippet still works (with new access prompts).
